Goodwin House Sponsors LeadingAge Virginia Study
December 14, 2018 – Alexandria, VA – Goodwin House Incorporated was one of ten organizations that provided financial support for an independent economic impact study conducted by LeadingAge Virginia. A 64-page report, “Market Needs and Economic Impact of LeadingAge Virginia Members” details current financial impact of the 133 LeadingAge Virginia members as well as projects future impact.
Authored by Dr. Steven J. Appold and Dr. James Johnson, Jr. of the Kenan Institute of Private Enterprise at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and Dr. Allan M. Parnell of the Cedar Grove Institute for Sustainable Communities, the independent report states that LeadingAge Virginia members provided a combined economic impact on the state of $1.9 billion annually, including $44 million in state and local taxes and $166 million in federal taxes. With projections indicating that the Virginia population of people age 65 and older will increase by more than 50% in the next 20 years, this impact has the potential to reach staggering new levels by 2040.
