At Goodwin House, we know that creating a sense of home is central to our mission of supporting, honoring and uplifting the lives of older adults and the people who care for them.
That is why we have embarked on an initiative we call Creating Home – a caring, compassionate and deliberate effort to rethink the roadblocks to offering a true home, which are typical within many of today’s facilities for older adults.
Through Creating Home, our residents, their families and our staff members will inform change in the way we think, live and work so we can increase autonomy, dignity and choice – things we associate with making a home where we feel safe, secure and free.
Changes may be
- Physical: easier access to the outdoors or shorter distance to basic activities (less need for wheelchairs).
- Procedural: fewer rules, fewer schedules or fewer alarms (better fall prevention measures).
- Medical: less medicine or better pain management.
- Human: more listening, collaboration, food choices, privacy or ways to interact.
Changes will be what we decide, together. Please join us, as Goodwin House continues Creating Home in our communities.
