Alexandria, then Bailey’s Crossroads & then More

In January 1966, a groundbreaking ceremony marked the beginning of a new retirement community in Alexandria’s West End. By 1967, the doors opened to welcome the first residents. In the 1970s and 1980s, Goodwin House Alexandria became a sought-after place for older adults to live and thrive.

As demand grew, GHI expanded in 1987 and built and opened a second community in Bailey’s Crossroads, a growing urban neighborhood in Falls Church, Va.

Both Goodwin House Alexandria and Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads gained positive reputations for excellence and by the 1990s, the wait lists for both communities exceeded capacity. GHI’s Board of Trustees recognized the need to expand and built a new 14 story residential building at Goodwin House Alexandria in 1998.

Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads experienced similar demand and GHI moved quickly to open The Pointe in 2010 with state of the art senior living apartments.
