Valerie L. Burke

Chief Philanthropy Officer

As the Chief Philanthropy Officer, Valerie Burke leads the overall fundraising efforts of the Goodwin House Foundation. She works to encourage generosity and foster partnerships that advance the mission of Goodwin House, which is to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults and those who care for them. Valerie also is leading GHI’s efforts around the strategic and growing scope of philanthropy to reimagine the possibilities of aging and enhance the quality of life for older adults.

Valerie enjoys inspiring giving to the Foundation and stewarding all gifts to ensure that donors understand their wonderful influence in the lives of others. Through their generous gifts, donors support the entire Goodwin House organizational family—residents, members and staff, as well as their family members.  Gifts made to the Foundation have a significant impact on the lives of all those individuals who are touched by our organization. Residents and their families know the Foundation is here for them should they need financial assistance and families are grateful for the loving and expert care they receive as well as the varied activities and programs offered for their loved ones. Staff and their families rely on the Foundation to help secure their futures by providing support for professional growth and mentoring, educational assistance, and help with unexpected financial emergencies.

Valerie has spent her career of almost three decades in fundraising, with the last 27 years in the development office at St. Stephen’s and St. Agnes School, a JK-12 Episcopal Day school in Alexandria, VA. Valerie is passionate about the joys of philanthropy – the ability to change the world through generosity. She has served as a volunteer for many non-profit organizations and has mentored others on the fulfilling work of advancement.

Valerie holds a BA degree in Psychology from The University of the South (Sewanee).
