Alexandria Chamber of Commerce Names Jackie Barbarito of Goodwin House Incorporated 2021 40 Under 40 Honoree

Alexandria, Va. – The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce has named Jackie Barbarito, MHA, LNHA, Administrator of Assisted Living and Memory Support at Goodwin House Alexandria (GHA), as an honoree for the 2021 40 Under 40 Awards. Established in 2016, the awards recognize the successes of 40 men and women under the age of 40 in various industries and their impact on the thriving Alexandria community.

As the Administrator of Assisted Living and Memory Support at GHA, Barbarito is responsible for the care of 52 residents in assisted living and 10 residents in memory support. She is co-chair of the Goodwin House Incorporated (GHI) Brain Health initiatives that are part of the organization’s multi-year Strategic Plan, a co-founder of the Dementia Friendly initiative in Alexandria and a member of the LeadingAge Virginia Education Committee.

“Jackie is a champion for Alexandria’s community of older adults and she’s a leader in the field of aging services who is breaking down barriers between older adults and needed services, especially those with Dementia,” said Linda Lateana, GHI Chief Operating Officer. “She is dedicated to Goodwin House’s mission and seeks to improve the quality of life of our residents with heartfelt passion.”

Committed to improving senior care throughout the larger community, Barbarito has been a leader and partner with the Alexandria Commission on Aging in the successful effort to designate Alexandria as a Dementia Friendly City. She is a Dementia Friend and one of three Master Champion Trainers in Northern Virginia, serving as a community catalyst and recognized organizer and trainer. Jackie has personally supported training programs for more than 500 first responders, church and business leaders in Alexandria.

“It’s an honor to be included on the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce 40 Under 40 list alongside so many other incredible professionals and community members,” said Ms. Barbarito. “My goal is to expand the quality of life for and support older adults and those who care for them in the Northern Virginia area through continued dementia friendly efforts. I look forward to continuing to serve this important community for years to come.”

Barbarito holds a Bachelor of Science in health promotion from American University and a master’s degree in healthcare administration from The George Washington University. In 2020, she became an adjunct professor at The George Washington University’s Milken Institute School of Public Health where she teaches a class on Post-Acute Care Management and Leadership. She completed an Administrator-In-Training program at Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads (GHBC) and became a licensed nursing home administrator in 2017.

“Jackie exemplifies the Goodwin House mission to support, honor and uplift the lives of older adults,” said Rob Liebreich, GHI President and CEO. “She has made incredible strides in the aging community with her work as a Dementia Friend. Our residents and the greater community of older adults in Northern Virginia benefit from advocates and selfless leaders like Jackie.”

The Alexandria Chamber of Commerce hosted an in-person ceremony on Thursday, July 15 for the 40 honorees and live-streamed the event for virtual attendees on Gather.Town. A portion of event ticket sales benefitted the Scholarship Fund of Alexandria.
