Goodwin House Nursing Care Centers Make U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Nursing Homes” List

November 13, 2018 – Alexandria, VA – Goodwin House Bailey’s Crossroads and Goodwin House Alexandria joined a select group of nursing homes to make the U.S. News & World Report “Best Nursing Homes” list for 2018, published on Oct. 30.

In developing the list, U.S. News reviewed more than 15,000 nursing care centers throughout the country, assessing them for both overall care and short-term rehabilitation stays. Out of all those facilities evaluated, 2,975 received the “Best Nursing Home” distinction. Note: While Goodwin House Incorporate is a not-for-profit organization, U.S. News lists both Goodwin House nursing centers as being “for-profit.” U.S. News is working to correct the error.)

U.S. News states on their website: “On any given morning this year, roughly 1.4 million individuals, including 1 in 10 individuals age 85 and above, will wake up in a U.S. nursing home. The quality of care provided at the more than 15,000 U.S. nursing homes, also sometimes called skilled nursing facilities, varies widely. U.S. News wants to help families research facilities and find a nursing home that excels in the type of care they need. The two ratings published by U.S. News, the Overall rating and the Short-Stay Rehabilitation rating, offer individuals and families a starting point in their search for a nursing home, whether they are interested in a facility’s overall care or specifically need short-term rehabilitation care.”

Since 2009, U.S. News has provided this service, relying on data provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid (CMS). CMS inspectors visit nursing care centers annually to ensure the centers are following the standards of this federal agency. With this year’s listing, U.S. News introduced a new evaluation measure for Short-Stay Rehabilitation care that is provided to residents for 100 days or less following a hospitalization. Reasons for the hospital stay can vary from injury, surgery, stroke, heart attack or other conditions.
